The competition was participated by road tanker drivers and operation staff from eight hauler companies affiliated to PDB. “FM Drive 2016 underscores PETRONAS’ commitment to safety in our day-to-day operations. Our road tanker drivers cover hundreds of thousands in kilometers of road daily to deliver our fuel products to customers and thus, it is necessary to ensure that they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to reduce unnecessary risks during their journey,” said Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, PDB.Safety is tantamount in the delivery of fuel via road tanker due to its sheer size, weight and the flammable content it carries. Road tanker drivers must be alert and vigilant in adhering to road safety guidelines so as not to pose a hazard to other road users. Through continuous awareness and engagement programmes with its stakeholders, PETRONAS strives to provide safer, more efficient and better-connected trucks that serve to deliver greater value to its customers wherever they are located. FM Drive is an annual tanker driver skills competition which started in 2012 to gauge the performance of its road tanker drivers and help them improve through a series of challenges that test their ability to perform manoeuvers within a specified time. The challenges include parallel parking, serpentine (figure 8 including reverse direction) and alley docking among others. Cash prizes and gift cards were awarded to the top three winners in two categories - driving and slow speed manoeuvering. The competition is also part of a three-day programme to promote a safety culture, amongst others, providing networking opportunities and friendly competition amongst road tanker drivers and haulers. Exhibitors comprising equipment manufacturers, who are our strategic partners, also showcased their latest equipment during the event. “PETRONAS will continue to invest in programmes that promote long-term sustainability in the area of health, safety and environment in ensuring the safe delivery of our goods to our customers across Malaysia,” concluded Ibrahimnuddin.
