Kuala Lumpur, 24 June 2016 – PETRONAS has joined forces with the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) in creating safer spaces for the public with more than 1,000 PETRONAS Stations nationwide now designated as “Go To Safety Points” (GTSPs).

The initiative was announced at a launch officiated by Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Khalid Abu Bakar; Chairman of PETRONAS, Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan; and Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS, at the PETRONAS station at Jalan Kolam Air Lama.

“Our more than 1,000 stations nationwide presents the public greater access in reaching out for assistance in cases of emergency,” said Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB), Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus. “Our collaboration with the RMP will equip dealers and their employees with the necessary capabilities to better handle emergency situations so that our customers feel confident and safe at our stations.”

“Through the collaboration with PETRONAS, we provide an alternative to the public to receive aid in emergency situations under the GTSP initiative,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Khalid.

The first phase of the initiative will involve the installation of safety features including strobe lights, as well as engagements with station dealers carried out in stages. RMP have also conducted training for the dealers and their employees from 512 stations in the central and northern regions, with training for all stations nationwide expected to conclude by September this year.

Among the modules covered in the training are an introduction on GTSP, basic law, self-defence as well as citizen's arrest. Participants are also taught how to handle victims in trauma and administer first aid. Members of the public who face emergency situations can now come to PETRONAS Stations for assistance.

Additionally, with road safety being the highlight during the festive seasons, PETRONAS returns with its Coffee Break campaign for the 17th consecutive year to distribute 900,000 cups of hot coffee and snacks to motorists this upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Customers can drop by PETRONAS’ 147 participating stations to enjoy the free goodies on 2 and 3 July from 6pm onwards and on 9 and 10 July 2016 from 3pm onwards, while stocks last.
